Vodafone to focus on data traffic in smaller towns of West Bengal

The company generates only 3.3 per cent of the total revenue from data service in the Bengal circle while the same is about 10 per cent in the Kolkata circle.

KOLKATA: Telecom major Vodafone India today said the company has rolled out a mobile internet roadshow in West Bengal to drive mobile data growth in the smaller towns and cities of the state.

"Mobile Internet has immense potential and we are looking to be an integral part of this opportunity with both 2G and 3G," said Vodafone Business Head ( Kolkata and WB) Anand Sahai while showcasing the Mobile Internet bus.

The bus will tour 37 tier II and tier III cities of the state to create awareness about Internet.

The company generates only 3.3 per cent of the total revenue from data service in the Bengal circle while the same is about 10 per cent in the Kolkata circle.

Sahai said there is no proposal so far to reduce tariff rate for 3G service despite at least one big competitor having slashed it recently.

The bus will travel through towns like Beharmpore, Malda, Balurghat, Debagram, Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Asansol, Kulti, among others.
