Vodafone Essar arm’s GSM application for MP gets nod

KOLKATA :Union communications minister A Raja has cleared Vodafone Essar Spacetel's long-pending application for a GSM licence for the Madhya Pradesh circle.. This was confirmed by a senior company official. Vodafone Essar Spacetel is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vodafone Essar— the umbrella holding company of all Vodafone entities in India.

Accordingly,Vodafone Essar Spacetel now holds licences in all seven B & C category circles — Orissa, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, North-East, Himachal Pradesh and J&K — where it proposes to launch greenfield mobile networks. Armed with the MP licence, the company will shortly apply for start-up spectrum. What remains to be seen is whether such 4.4 MHz startup spectrum will come bundled with the MP licence?
