Uninor adds highest GSM users in September

Unitech Wireless, that operates under the Uninor brand, added more than 1.9 million customers in September — the highest amongst all GSM operators in India.

NEW DELHI: Unitech Wireless, that operates under the Uninor brand, added more than 1.9 million customers in September — the highest amongst all GSM operators in India. Mobile customer additions rose for the first time in September after falling for six consecutive months.

Cellular Operator’s Association of India ( COAI) said on Wednesday that mobile operators, including Airtel and Vodafone added a total of 6.52 million customers to the country’s GSM user base, the highest monthly addition since February.

India’s GSM subscriber base crossed 618 million subscribers over July, up from 611 million last month. Idea Cellular added 1.7 million customers. Bharti Airtel added 935,000 users in September, taking its total subscriber base to 172.7 million and market share to nearly 28%. Vodafone notched up 848,000 million new subscribers during the month.
