NEW DELHI: Swedish company Truecaller has launched Truemessenger application for Android phones in India to help keep out spam SMS messages from a user’s phone.

Truemessenger is designed as an SMS replacement app, with an automated spam filter powered by 150 million strong Truecaller community members worldwide, the company said in a release on Tuesday.

"With Truemessenger we’ve reimagined the SMS app experience by making it more social and putting control back into the users’ hands so they always know who they are communicating with," Alan Mamedi, CEO and co-founder of Truecaller said in a statement.

According to the company, spam accounts for 15 per cent of all SMS messages sent globally.

The app will allow users to put a name to a number, even for contacts outside their phonebook. Users can also detect, block and report spam alongside other Truecaller members. In addition, the app offers an option to avoid messages from unwanted numbers and contacts.
