The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) Monday said it will conduct a survey in September among wireless and wireline subscribers in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and Delhi licensed service areas on telecom tariffs and associated issues in urban and rural areas.

The survey will be centred around issues such as whether tariff offerings are easy to locate, easy to understand and whether tariffs on offer meet consumer requirements, besides awareness on existing consumer protection measures.

"The objective is three-fold from consumer perspective," the sector watchdog said in a statement. It added that it wanted to understand the consumer views on tariffs offerings. Secondly, it wanted to gauge the awareness and efficacy of regulatory provisions related to consumer protection and, thirdly, "to understand the efficacy of the transparency framework in publishing tariff offers in advertisements given by the telecom service providers".

It will cover subscribers of wireline and wireless telephony segment as well as wireline and wireless broadband services provided by telecom operators and standalone Internet service providers.
