The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) recently floated a paper prompted by the government's decision to incentivise investments for setting up local hyper-scale data centres and boost the existing ecosystem capacity. "India must become a leader in data centres, and data going outside the country should be prevented," a top Trai official said. He added Trai is finalising views and will release the recommendations after a suo motu consultation with stakeholders.
Trai, in its discussion paper, had noted lack of progress in creating a regulatory regime and had sought stakeholders views on measures needed to accelerate growth of data centres.
