TRAI proposes National-Do-Not-Call registry

TRAI proposes setting up of a mechanism to receive a request from subscribers who want to join the registry as well as penalty for unsolicited calls.


NEW DELHI: Telecom regulator TRAI today proposed setting up of a National-Do-Not-Call Registry to save millions of phone users the bother of unsolicited calls from telemarketing executives.

Telecom companies will have to set up a mechanism to receive a request from subscribers who have opted for the Do-Not-Call service, TRAI said in a statement.

The Authority has also proposed a penalty of Rs 500-1,000 a call for those telemarketing companies, who call up subscribers who have opted for the Do Not Call facility.
