Top 8 telecom firms in fray as 2G spectrum auction kicks off today

The auction will cover a total of 22 circles, including the metro service areas of Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The govt hopes to mop up Rs 40,874.50 crore from the spectrum sale.

Eight companies, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance Jio Infocomm, will be participating in the auction of 2G airwaves in the 1800 MHz and 900 MHz bands that kicks off on Monday.

The auction will cover a total of 22 circles, including the metro service areas of Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The govt hopes to mop up Rs 40,874.50 crore from the spectrum sale during the current fiscal year, including the upfront auction amount, regular annual licence fee and a one-time spectrum charge.
