Telephone subscriber base rises to 95.76 crore in July-September

The wireless subscriber base has increased to 93.02 crore in the reported period from 87.05 crore, registering a growth rate of 6.85 per cent.

NEW DELHI: The total telephone subscriber base in the country rose by 6.42 per cent to 95.76 crore in July-September quarter of 2014, regulator Trai said today.

The subscriber base stood at 89.98 crore in the corresponding period last year.

The wireless subscriber base has increased to 93.02 crore in the reported period from 87.05 crore, registering a growth rate of 6.85 per cent. Wireline base declined 6.41 per cent to 2.74 crore from 2.92 crore.

The overall teledensity increased to 76.75 per cent in July-September quarter of 2014 from 73.01 per cent last year.

The total internet subscriber base rose by 20.92 per cent to 25.44 crore in the reported period from 21.03 crore in the same period last year.

The gross revenue of the telecom sector rose by 8.69 per cent to Rs 62,446.66 crore for the period under review as compared to Rs 57,452.56 crore in the same period last time.

The average revenue per user (ARPU) increased to Rs 118.20 from Rs 111.85 last year.
