IMC 2026: PM Modi discusses digital inclusion, AI with GSMA board

The Prime Minister emphasised technology as a tool for inclusive and sustainable development, underscoring the need for democratisation. He stressed affordable and accessible technology and digital services for the Global South, highlighting last-mile connectivity to prevent a digital divide.
PM Modi noted the transformative potential of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for developing countries. He stated that discussions with world leaders show DPI's growing global relevance, serving as a springboard for Global South nations.
Addressing digital and cyber fraud, the Prime Minister suggested technology-driven solutions. He also recommended sustained awareness messages to warn users about potential fraud calls.
PM Modi highlighted the need for global standards and common rules for emerging technologies. He proposed exploring mechanisms for users to identify the origin of deepfakes and AI-generated content.
GSMA Board members acknowledged India's leadership in digital and mobile connectivity, citing rapid 4G and 5G expansion. They also noted the scale of digital public infrastructure and the growth of the telecom and mobile manufacturing ecosystem. The members appreciated India’s investment-friendly policy framework and emphasised secure digital infrastructure for continued growth. They highlighted opportunities for international cooperation with India in 5G, 6G, AI, cybersecurity, digital inclusion, and satellite connectivity.
Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Minister of State for Communications, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, also attended the meeting.
