Fight for active mobile users

Reliance Jio added the highest number of active mobile users among India’s top telcos in October 2022, further consolidating its market leadership.

Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost active users. Jio has a 38.6% share of *active users followed by Bharti Airtel at 35.3%. Lossmaking Vi’s active users share dipped a few decimal points to around 20.9%, brokerages analysing Trai data said.

  • Gains in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh-E, UP-W, Rajasthan, and West Bengal drive Jio’s increase
  • Losses in Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh-E, Gujarat, Assam, Kolkata, and Madhya Pradesh reduce Airtel’s share
  • Voda Idea’s active users fall due to losses in metros, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu


Why the churn:
Low ARPU (average revenue per user) customers in key markets switching service providers amid costlier mobile services.
