Cybersecurity a big opportunity for telcos, says IBM Executive

US IT major IBM said that cybersecurity is going to be one of the biggest revenue opportunities for telecom operators in India which may offer security as a service to enterprises and smallmedium enterprises.

Vaidyanathan Iyer, security software leader, IBM India and South Asia, told ET that the company is engaging with all three telcos in India for its security-related products through its major IT outsourcing deals and through separate arrangements. IBM is managing Vodafone Idea’s complete Internal Security Operations Centre, under the recently inked IT outsourcing deal, as per industry sources.

“So, we are bringing in our global expertise as well. If you look at it, of my overall cybersecurity business, significant growth is coming from the telcos and I expect that to grow,” Iyer said.


Under its cybersecurity business, IBM is focusing on services such as threat management and fraud management, IoT security monitoring, managed security services, and secure authentication and trusted digital identity.
