Airtel down for many users; telecom company says working to resolve the issue

Airtel users across several parts of India reported widespread network outages on Monday, with many facing issues with mobile data and voice services.

Outage tracking platform Downdetector recorded a peak of over 3,500 reports of service disruption from Airtel users across India at 4:31 pm, indicating a widespread network issue affecting both mobile data and voice connectivity.

"We are currently experiencing a network outage, our team is actively working to resolve the issue and restore services promptly. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused," said the telecom giant in a statement.

Many users expressed frustration over Airtel’s ongoing network issues, reporting problems with voice calls and SMS services lasting for extended periods. Some highlighted concerns about data deductions on 4G networks despite having 5G plans, and criticized the network infrastructure that limits seamless connectivity. Overall, users conveyed disappointment and a desire for more reliable service.

A Downdetector map of areas affected by the Airtel outage showed Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Guwahati and Madurai in the red, indicating higher than usual complaints from across all corners of the country.

Cities in central India were no different on this count, as of 6 pm on Monday.
