30% 5G availability in India in nine months: OpenSignal

5G is the latest telecom technology that is being rolled out across the globe. While some countries like South Korea are nearing the 50% mark of 5G availability, others like Indonesia are just starting out. In India, two of the leading private operators —Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel — are rolling out 5G services since October last year and in just nine months, 5G availability has reached 29.9%. OpenSignal has analysed some of the 5G experience benchmarks for the period from March 1-May 29, 2023.

5G AVAILABILITY:
In India, 5G availability stood at 29.9%. 5G services were launched in October last year in India. South Korea and Puerto Rico lead in worldwide 5G availability with 5G users in these markets approaching half of time spent with an active 5G connection with scores of 42.9% and 48.4% respectively.


5G DOWNLOAD SPEED AND UPLIFT
In India, average 5G download speeds are 19.2 times as fast as 4G speeds. India witnessed an average 5G download speed of 301.6 mbps

However, users in most markets see 5G speeds that are three to six times as fast as 4G In six markets, average 5G download speeds are over 10 times as fast as 4G speeds, with India leading the pack (19.2x), followed by Malaysia (14.4x), Sri Lanka (13.8x), Brazil (13.5x), Kuwait (10.8x) and Guatemala (10.4x).

VIDEO & GAMES EXPERIENCE
Users across India see an uplift of 23.4% for video experience and a similar 29.2% for games experience, ranking second globally for improvement on that measure.
