Telecom industry welcomes decisive mandate in Lok Sabha polls
The telecom industry on Saturday cheered the decisive verdict of the people during the Lok Sabha elections and hoped for a stable and strong policy regime for the sector ahead.
Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman & Group CEO, Bharti Enterprises, whose company Bharti Airtel's number of subscribers has just reached 100 million, said today, "The industry has been hoping for a stable and strong government and the mandate clearly points in this direction.
"The Indian economy is set to maintain its growth trajectory with a focus on all-inclusive growth. India has much to cheer about."
Rajan Mittal, Chairman, FICCI Telecom Committee, said, "We want a stable regime in terms of telecom spectrum policy, auction of 3G, and, (since telecom is not growing in rural areas) levies on telecom to be rationalised."
Sunil Mittal had earlier said, "What we want is stable policy. Be it linked with the subscriber base or auction route, we want more spectrum and a stable regime."
Besides the spectrum issue, Mittal had said that another agenda for the new government should be bringing in uniform levies in telecom.
