Telecom Commission to consider proposal for Telecom Finance Corporation

NEW DELHI: Inter-ministerial body Telecom Commission (TC) is likely to consider next week a proposal for setting up Telecom Finance Corporation (TFC), which will channelise funding for telecom projects in order to facilitate investment in the sector.


"Creation of Telecom Finance Corporation is one of the matters that will be placed before the Telecom Commission in next meeting," official sources said.

Cabinet has already approved creation of the TFC under National Telecom Policy 2012 which will facilitate mobilisation and channelise financing for telecom projects in order to facilitate investment in the telecom sector.

Though no date for Telecom Commission meeting has been finalised yet but the body is expected to meet next week.

The inter-ministerial body will also examine if the government can divest or lower stake in its consulting firm Telecommunications Consultants India Limited ( TCIL).

The Telecom Commission may also review status of National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) and progress made in different Telecom Development Parameters by end of January 2013.
