Telcos ACT to ensure verification of mobile users

Cellular and Unified Access telecom operators, COAI and AUSPI, have set up a Apex Advisory Council for Telecom in India (ACT) to ensure that proper subscriber verification process is followed before any mobile connection is activated.

NEW DELHI: Cellular and Unified Access telecom operators, COAI and AUSPI, have set up a Apex Advisory Council for Telecom in India (ACT) to ensure that proper subscriber verification process is followed before any mobile connection is activated.

The move is aimed at the mobile industry initiative to improve subscriber verification process for complying with the requirements of the department of Telecom and also to address the concerns of national security agencies.

A COAI release on Friday said the process laid down by ACT requires the operators to ensure follow a proper identification and address verification mechanism for activation of mobile connections.

ACT will focus on new mobile connections while DoT has given five months to operators to verify their existing subscriber base.
