Telcordia India to be software hub for SE Asia

US-based telecom network software and services provider, Telcordia Technologies on Wednesday said its development centre set up at Chennai will cater to the domestic market and other countries of South East Asian region.

NEW DELHI: US-based telecom network software and services provider, Telcordia Technologies on Wednesday said its development centre set up at Chennai will cater to the domestic market and other countries of South East Asian region.

"Telcordia India Labs, our first development centre outside the US, would not be an outsourcing centre but a software development hub not only for India but for the South East Asian region as well," Telcordia Executive Vice President, Global Sales and marketing, Scott K Erickson said here.

The Chennai centre would help us leverage Telcordia's presence closer to our growth markets, he added.

With a global headcount of over 3000 employees, the company is looking at employing about 500 people at its Chennai facility, which Scott said would mean a "significant piece of business for Telcordia".

"When we talk about investments gone into our Chennai facility, we are primarily looking at our headcount there. Our Centre there would have about 500 employees, which would be significant to the company," he added.

Telcordia's existing customer base in India includes companies like Tata, Idea Cellular, Reliance, DoT and Trai and the company is eyeing partnerships with BSNL, Bharti and Accenture.

The company registered a growth of 60 per cent in the last fiscal and India contributed substantially to Telcordia's turnover, he said.

"Sales of about $30 million were generated alone from our India operations and it would be a focus market for us," he added.
