NEW DELHI: GSM operators won some temporary relief as the solicitor general Goolam E Vahanvati on Wednesday assured the telecom tribunal that no spectrum would be allocated to any player under the new telecom policy until November 12, the next date for hearing.

The tribunal — TDSAT — was hearing a petition filed by the Cellular Operators Association of India, the body that represents GSM operators, challenging the government’s October 19 decision to permit dual technology and tighten the subscriber linked criterion by multiple times for allocation of additional spectrum. Following the assurance by Mr Vahanvati, TDSAT chairman Justice Arun Kumar adjourned the hearing.
