Tata Teleservices to invest Rs 4,000 cr
Tata Teleservices has chalked out a Rs 4,000-crore mega investment plan for this fiscal to expand coverage to 4,000 towns across the country.
Announcing this here on Tuesday, Tata Teleservices CEO Darryl Green said the company has also tied up with Chinese firm ZTE for providing 2,600 base stations to expand its network in remote areas.
"We plan to expand our network dramatically, for which Rs 4,000 crore will be spent by March 2007," Green said on the sidelines of the launch of the company's new CDMA handset in tie-up with Samsung.
Emphasizing the high growth potential of Indian market, he said ZTE base stations had been developed to work in difficult conditions in rural areas.
As per the tie-up with ZTE, 2,600 base stations would be set up across the country in the next 18 months, he said.
Tata Teleservices currently operates in 20 circles with a coverage spread over 2,500 towns.
Asked to comment on the royalty issue with CDMA technology provider Qualcomm, he said the company was in talks with them and expressed confidence that the matter would be addressed properly.
