NEW DELHI/KOLKATA: Telecom services provider, Tata Teleservices on Friday said it will invest Rs 4,000 crore in capital expenditure to augment and strengthen the network in 20 existing and some proposed circles like North East and about Rs 100 crore to increase its retail presence in the country.
During the first four months of 2006-07, the company has already pumped in Rs 1,000 crore, Tata Teleservices Vice President and Head (Retail) Rajiv Handa said.
"We have identified enhanced retail presence as a cornerstone of our strategy to double our customer base from existing 12 million to 18 million by next year. We will be investing Rs 80-100 crore to increase our retail presence in the country to 3,500 outlets by March 2007," Company's Delhi and NCR Circle Operating Officer Debashis Sur said.
The company already has 2,700 outlets in about 600 towns and the new ones would cover over 100 cities and towns including semi-urban and rural areas, he said.
"Out of the 800 new outlets, 25 per cent will be established in the rural areas across the country," Sur said.
Tata Teleservices Ltd has also entered the Limca Book of Records for being the first telecom operator in India to launch 100 outlets across the nation on a single day.
