Stronger players will get stronger after the MNP scheme: Prasun Gajri

We will see probably the stronger players getting stronger and this has been kind of evident from one state where MNP has been in existence for a month or so now.

In a chat with ET Now, Prasun Gajri, CIO, HDFC Standard Life, gives his views on MNP and its impact on telecom industry.

ET Now: Mobile number portability, what do you think this is going to do for the telecom industry?

Prasun Gajri: I guess it adds to the cost in the short term very clearly in terms of everyone trying to acquire each other’s customers but my sense is the stronger players would probably end up getting stronger at the end of it, so therefore, those people have something to gain out of this entire MNP but on the flipside, there could be some pressures on the post-paid tariffs because those are the customers, which are being asked to kind of turnaround and, therefore, newer offers would come through for those people and there could be, therefore, some impact on the post-paid tariffs in the telecom sector but by the end of it as we get closer to the end of this calendar year, we will see probably the stronger players getting stronger and this has been kind of evident from one state where MNP has been in existence for a month or so now.
