Star India fined Rs 50,000 for non-compliance of TDSAT order

Telecom tribunal TDSAT today imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Star India Pvt Ltd for non-compliance of its order regarding supply of signals to a cable operator.

NEW DELHI: Telecom tribunal TDSAT today imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Star India Pvt Ltd for non-compliance of its order regarding supply of signals to a cable operator.

"The non-compliance of order of this Tribunal in my view is clearly willful. In spite of being given another opportunity for compliance, respondent (Star India) has not done it. The respondent will pay a fine of Rs 50,000 for this non-compliance," Justice Arun Kumar, Chairperson of Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal, said.

The penal amount is to be deposited within three days in the Registry of the Tribunal.

Star India failed to comply with the Tribunal's order of October 31, in which it had directed the private broadcaster to start supply of signals to the cable operator, Sky Vision.

The Tribunal directed Star to restore the signals on a provisional subscriber base of 4,500, which was to be finally determined by it after the conclusion of joint survey by the parties.

However, the broadcaster did not comply with its order, and on November 14, the Tribunal once again directed Star India to supply the signals within two days.
