NEW DELHI: Communications minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Saturday that the government will finalize spectrum trading and sharing guidelines by the year end and formalize procedures to conduct the next round of auctions within this fiscal. “Recommendations from Trai on spectrum trading and sharing are in, we’re working on it.

By the end of the year, proper guidelines will be in place,” the minister said, talking about the ministry’s achievements in the first 100 days of the new government. Trai had issued guidelines on sharing airwaves in all bands, provided both service providers already have airwaves in that spectrum band. Spectrum trading and sharing can reduce cost of providing mobile telephony while offering an alternative to buying airwaves.
