Sarin hands olive branch to Ruias

Give us more than 24 hours to perfect what should be a long-lasting relationship.

NEW DELHI: Vodafone CEO Arun Sarin on Wednesday used the Valentine’s Day to hold out an olive branch to the Essar Group, a 33% shareholder in Hutch Essar (HEL). “Today is Valentine’s Day. I would be sending roses to Essar. I am extending an olive branch. Essar is my first, second and third preference as a partner. Give us more than 24 hours to perfect what should be a long-lasting relationship. We are very happy for the (Ruia) family to stay invested if they so wish and create further value,” Mr Sarin said in Delhi. But there was just the hint of an iron fist inside the velvet glove. Mr Sarin asserted Essar does not have any right of first refusal with respect to Vodafone’s stake in HEL.
