NEW DELHI: Anil Ambani promoted Reliance Communications has further expanded its footprint on foreign shores by clinching a $150-180 million bandwidth deal from four Middle East countries.
The company on Monday signed multi-million dollar international bandwidth agreements with Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Ambani had signed a similar agreement on Sunday with Oman and Kuwait.
These deals make the company the largest provider of international bandwidth from India. Through these deals the company will be selling 70-80 STM1 bandwidth to them, which is equivalent to 12-14 gigabytes. Even as company officials did not disclose the deal size, industry sources said it would be in the range of $150-180 million.
The deals with Batelco, Bahrain and Integrated Telecom Company (ITC), Saudi Arabia envisage bandwidth capacity provision from Flag Telecom, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Communications on its Falcon undersea cable. Agreement with Baharin was signed for purchase of 16STM1s on Falcon, company sources said.
There are 39 telecom licensed service providers and 104 licensed ISPs in Baharin and FLAG also has license to provide local and international fixed voice and data services license services in Bahrain.
Batelco has been customer of Flag since 1997. In April 2004, Batelco ordered international connectivity from Flag for 1st ever Formula 1 event.
Flag's Falcon is the only international cable connecting Bahrain and is on schedule for completion in September this year.
