RCom welcomes DoT's initiative; to start GSM service soon
Reliance Communications on Friday hailed government's new initiative in the telecom sector and said the company would launch nationwide GSM mobile services in addition to existing CDMA services.
"The acceptance by the DoT of telecom regulator TRAI's recommendations of the enhanced subscribers-linked criteria for spectrum allocation will ensure the much needed spectral efficiency and a greater competitive environment," RCom said in a release.
The Unified Service Access Licenses are technology neutral and the grant of approval of RCom for offering GSM services reaffirms company's stand.
The company has paid the requisite fee of Rs 1651 crore to the government and simultaneously applied for spectrum with the Wireless Planning Coordination (WPC) wing of DoT.
The company said RCom's entry into GSM operations would further enhance competition and would make mobile services more affordable.
