RCom to sign deal with Chinese cos

Reliance Communication (RCom) is close to signing a Rs 300 crore deal with two Chinese equipment majors, Huawei and ZTE, for over one million plug and play (PnP) USB modems.

NEW DELHI: Reliance Communication (RCom) is close to signing a Rs 300 crore deal with two Chinese equipment majors, Huawei and ZTE, for over one million plug and play (PnP) USB modems.

ET could not ascertain the value of order placed with the each of these companies individually.

According to RCom executives, the company is expected to receive the first consignment of nearly 100,000 modems (10% of bulk order) by mid week and will roll out these modems in the market soon.

This is a part of Rcom���s strategy to ramp up its wireless data operations in rural areas. Currently, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is the largest player in rural space with over 50% market share, while private operators account for a miniscule share.
