PM to open telecom conference tomorrow
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will tomorrow inaugurate 'India Telecom 2007' conference, in which national as well as international telecom and IT companies will take part.
The conference comes at a time when the telecom sector is grappling with various issues including on allocating spectrum to mobile players. Both GSM and CDMA operators have been accusing each other on various telecom issues while the Department of Telecom is working toward a formula to pacify the operators.
Leading GSM operators, including Bharti Airtel, has challenged the government's new telecom norms in tribunal TDSAT. The government had increased subscriber base for allocation of additional spectrum and allowed use of dual technology by a single operator -- a move that GSM players say is aimed at benefiting CDMA operators.
The four-day event would discuss new growth drivers that are revolutionising the telecom sector in India and around the world and assess challenges and opportunities associated with new technologies and growth frontiers.
