Pesky calls to end by month-end

HYDERABAD: Signalling that the end of the menace of pesky telemarketing calls to mobile users is around the corner, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ( Trai) is all set to issue regulations for unsolicited calls by the end of this month,Trai chairman J S Sarma said .

"We have held consultations and open house discussions (with various stakeholders). We are finalising regulations for unsolicited commercial communication. The final regulations will be issued during the course of the month," Sarma said here on Monday.

The good news for mobile subscribers, who have been at the receiving end of telemarketing calls: the Trai guidelines on unsolicited calls will be effective immediately after they are put in place.
