OnMobile eyeing mobile tech firms

The company is scouting for such potential targets across the globe. Potential targets are companies with strong mobile technology intellectual property.

KOLKATA: OnMobile, which is one of Indias largest telecom value added service (VAS) providers, plans to acquire mobile technology companies to beef up its product portfolio. The Bangalore-based company is open to multiple acquisitions of small-sized companies with unique IPRs.

Though it has not set aside a corpus for such inorganic growth, OnMobile is ready to open its purse strings if it gets an interesting target. The decision comes on the heels of the companys integration with the recently acquired French mobile data management firm, Voxmobili. Talking to ET, OnMobile CTO Mouli Raman said the company is scouting for such potential targets across the globe. The potential targets are companies with strong mobile technology intellectual property. If there is a good fit, we are open to higher valuations too, he said. Incidentally, the Voxmobili deal has been pegged at about e25 million.

We have integrated our product portfolio with that of Voxmobili. As a result, we are now pushing our products to Voxmobilis clients such as phone back-up service. This includes some of the biggest mobile operators like France Telecom, Orange and T-Mobile. Mobile paparazzi is another innovative product which allows photo sharing between the phone and social networking sites, Mr Raman added.

It may be recalled that Infosys Technologies had incubated OnMobile in 2000. In fact, OnMobile now plans to work jointly with Infosys to sell its products outside India. We are exploring opportunities for a partnership with Infosys whereby they will sell our products to their existing telecom clients, Mr Raman said.
