Nokia's music phone unveiled

Nokia unveiled its music phone Nokia 5800 in the Express Music category which includes album 'Connections' by music director A R Rahman.

CHENNAI: Mobile phone major Nokia today unveiled its music phone Nokia 5800 in the Express Music category here which has a new album 'Connections' by ace music director A R Rahman.

Rahman, who is celebrating his 43rd birthday on Tuesday, launched the phone amid fanfare.

Priced at Rs 21,899, the phone is equipped with high resolution 3.2 inch display and stereo speakers with surround sound. It comes with 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED flash and has 8GB expandable memory. The device is available at Nokia Concept Store, all Nokia Priority Dealers and mobile outlets in South India.

"Initially there were records, then cassettes, CDs and now downloading facility", he said, referring to the way how how people accessed music over the last two decades.

The album 'Connections' has nine special tracks available only on the phone.The 'Jiya Se Jiya' track, which reflects different moods and genres and the track 'Kural' were played exclusively for the gathering on the occasion.

To a query whether the album will be available on compact discs, he said, "it may be available after a few months".

Nokia India Regional General Manager (Markets) T S Sridhar said the phone has had a tremendous response.
