Nokia unfazed by Google's proposed launch
Welcoming the new competion from Google, Worlds leading mobile handsetmanufacturer Nokia Corp on Thursday said it is unpurturbed by theproposed launch of open source platform Android by global search giant.
"While there are 200 million devices that runs on Symbian worldwide, ther are zero devices operating on the Adroid platform," Nokia President and CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo told reporters here.
"We welcome the competition from Google," he added. Nokia Corp, the world's biggest maker of mobile phones has recently acquired52 per cent of Symbianand is planning to make the software royalty-free for other phone makers.
Symbian's free software would compete with Microsoft Corp, Research In Motion, Google and Apple in operating systems for hand-held computers and smart phones.
Googleit understood to come up with the first handsets that run its Android operating system by the second half of this year.
