Nokia Siemens Networks on Thursday signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu Government to set up a Rs 300 crore manufacturing facility at the Oragadam SEZ.

CHENNAI: Global network solution provider Nokia Siemens Networks on Thursday signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu Government to set up a Rs 300 crore manufacturing facility at the Oragadam Special Economic Zone near here.

"The investment is about Rs 300 crore in this factory. The initial employment potential is about 400 people, to be employed directly by us over the next three years," Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) Finance and Control - Head, India Sub-Region, Suresh Wadhwani told reporters.

The facility would manufacture products related to mobile and fixed telephony and be set up on 21 acres at Oragadam SEZ, about 45 km from here and to be operational by October, this year.

"In this (facility), the state-of-the-art products we manufacture will relate to mobile telephony and fixed telephony equipment. Base stations and radio-access products is mainly what we will produce from this factory," he said.

Suresh said the 'excellent support' given to them by the Tamil Nadu government was one of the reasons for setting up the facility here.

Though the facility would mainly cater to the domestic market, the company was also looking at exports, initially to South East Asian countries once the factory starts functioning.
