Nokia Siemens opens facility to manage telecom networks
International communication networks firm Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has inaugurated a second facility in the country to remotely manage telecom networks across the world at Noida.
The Noida facility is NSNs third such Global Network Solutions Centre (GNSC) in the world. The company manages networks and related infrastructure of telecom companies across countries remotely from its three global network solutions centres.
India will now be the hub of NSNs centralised global delivery model through an integrated, multi-technology, multi-vendor platform for the companys operations across the world, its CEO Simon Beresford Wylie said. Apart from the two centres in India, NSNs other such centre is located in Lisbon, Portugal.
Last year, NSN had announced the shifting its global services business unit headquarters from Munich to Noida.
The 20,000-people global services team of NSN now reports to the headquarters in India.
The services unit contributes 40% of NSNs revenues. "The leadership team for services has also moved to the Noida centre. Having a GNSC at the same location helps us," Mr Beresford Wylie said.
This country leads the way in terms of competition, innovation and operators are forced to come up with new business models as they have low revenue earning customers and have very little radio frequencies to offer services compared with other countries," he said.
NSNs global head of services Rajeev Suri said managing the networks of all its telecom clients remotely through a GNSC was a new and innovative approach. "This is being recognised as an alternative strategy to the existing fragmented model that comprises of multiple services or technology-specific delivery centers across regions," he explained.
In addition to being at the centre of one of the worlds fastest growing mobile markets, the new Noida facility will complement the two existing centres in Lisbon in Portugal and Chennai, said Mr Beresford Wylie.
Late last year, NSN had set up a manufacturing centre in Chennai. Mr Beresford Wylie said the company was not exporting products from its Chennai facility as the entire output is being consumed in the domestic market.
