Nokia Q2 profit rises 43% on sales in India, China

Nokia, the world's largest maker of mobile phones, said second-quarter profit gained 43 per cent on increased handset sales in India and China.

TOKYO: Nokia, the world's largest maker of mobile phones, said second-quarter profit gained 43 per cent on increased handset sales in India and China.

Net income rose to 1.14 billion euros (1.44 billion US dollar) from 799 million euros, a year earlier, the Espoo, Finland-based company said today.

Sales rose 22 per cent to 9.81 billion euros from 8.06 billion euros.

Nokia is increasing sales by introducing cheaper handsets aimed at India and China, while selling pricier phones with music players and cameras in Europe.
