New spectrum management policy in offing: Telecom secretary

The government is working on a new spectrum management policy for telecom operators, according to Telecom Secretary Siddhartha Behura. He added that operators globally have 15-20Mhz of spectrum, while India is still debating if operators should get beyond 6.2 MHz.

Therefore, the policy has to be reworked. Pointing out that there are too many players in the telecom space, and that consolidation is inevitable, Behura also said that the government is looking at ways to utilize the Universal Service obligation fund effectively.
