NEC Corporation to set up mobile communication system development centre

NEC Corporation has proposed to set up the country's "first" mobile network excellence centre near here in April.

CHENNAI: NEC Corporation (formerly Nippon Electric Company), a leader in IT and networking technologies, has proposed to set up the country's "first" mobile network excellence centre near here in April.

The NEC Mobile Network Excellence Centre (NMEC) would be the first mobile communication system development centre in India, a company statement said.

The centre would design and develop hardware and software for ultra-compact microwave communication systems, which are widely accepted as key products for mobile backhaul in the global market, it said.

NEC had decided to produced PASOLINK systems in the Special Economic Zone near Chennai, and will begin shipping products from June this year, NEC Mobile Wireless Network Division, Deputy General Manager, Atsushi Noro said.

The establishment of the centre in Chennai would allow NEC to benefit from local skills and would enable NEC offer competitive products to global markets, it added.
