MTNL to provide gaming service for broadband users
State-run MTNL on Wednesday launched Games On Demand service for its broadband subscribers, under a partnership with mobile games provider firm Indiagames.
With this service the users of Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd's broadband service Tri-Band will be able to access popular games provided by Indiagames' service at a basic package of Rs 300 a month.
This will also permit the users to access authorised versions of the games, as the content provider has tied up with game developers like Microsoft, Codemaster and Atari.
"Future of broadband is content, features and gaming besides e-commerce and e-learning. Country's broadband demand is increasing and features and entertainment options are becoming a deciding factor," MTNL Executive Director M S Rana said.
MTNL also plans to roll out broadcast TV channels through IPTV service via its broadband network and Video On Demand will open new business streams for us, he added.
The subcribers of this new service will not be charged an additional fee for data transfer during downloads, multiplayer compatible games, automatic patching and secutiry.
