MTNL launches CDMA services for Delhi users
MTNL on Tuesday launched its next generation CDMA services (CDMA 1x) in Delhi for mobile subscribers and announced a host of tariff schemes on this network, including unlimited free calls to one MTNL landline number for one year.
The improved CDMA services would be available only for post-paid subscribers as of now and would be made available to pre-paid users in the near future.
The network, set up at an investment of Rs 300 crore, has the capacity of 4 lakh lines and will provide coverage throughout Delhi at 222 BTS and high speed internet access at 115 kbps. The equipment has been manufactured by Chinese company Huawei, which has tied up with India's HFCL for supply and installation.
The service has two plans, 'Super Saver' and 'Economy Plan' with excellent coverage, rent-free high speed internet access at usage charges of Rs 2 per mb, MTNL's executive director A K Arora said.
MTNL has tied up with ZTE to provide mobile phones in EMI basis with upfront payment of Rs 1,000, excluding sales tax with EMI of Rs 200 per month for 15 months. During the EMI period, own-net free call allowance shall be Rs 200 per month.
The CDMA service will be followed by other steps MTNL plans in near future like expansion of broadband services and introduction of IPTV switches, launching IP/MTLS network that will further facilitate transfer of voice, video and high speed data and New Generation Network, Arora said.
