MTNL floats Rs 210 cr tender to expand network
State-run MTNL has floated a Rs 210 crore tender to procure broadband access network equipment for its service areas of Delhi and Mumbai.

NEW DELHI: State-run MTNL has floated a Rs 210 crore tender to procure broadband access network equipment for its service areas of Delhi and Mumbai.
Officials of the PSU said the company proposed to expand its broadband services like reliable high speed Internet connectivity and other value-added services such as VPN, Video Multicast, Video on Demand over DSL lines at Delhi and Mumbai. The company hopes to award the tender in May.
The telecom PSU has set a target of 5 lakh broadband users by the end of the financial year in both Delhi and Mumbai. Currently, the company has about 3 lakh broadband subscribers and a waiting list of 18,000 in Mumbai and 8,000 in Delhi.
It has 1.6 million and 2.2 million landline subscribers in Delhi and Mumbai respectively.
The Global Tenders for IT and Telecom equipment are being invited under a two-bid system (Techno-commercial bid & financial bid) and the bidders will be responsible for supply of equipments, installation, testing, commissioning and making over the systems to MTNL.

The bidders will have to undertake 30 per cent of value addition indigenously and proof for achieving value addition of 30 per cent would be ascertained by a third party such as TEC or any other organization designated by Government/MTNL. The bidder will bring necessary certificate in this regard.However, outsourcing for manufacture of main equipment to contract manufacturers for manufacturing in India will be permitted.
The PSU is looking at major growth in broadband penetration among its 4 million landline subscribers and has launched IPTV (television which utilises the broadband fibre network).
