India's total mobile subscriber base has reached over 14 crore with the addition of a whopping 67 lakh subscribers in November.

NEW DELHI: India's total mobile subscriber base has reached over 14 crore with the addition of a whopping 67 lakh subscribers in November.

While GSM cellular subscriber base crossed the 10 crore mark in November, the number of CDMA-based mobile users has swelled to 4.2 crore during the month, according to data released by trade associations COAI and AUSPI respectively.

CDMA operators added over 17 lakh subscribers in the month, while GSM based cellular companies added 50 lakh new users.

Reliance Communications added 11.5 lakh CDMA subscribers in November taking its total subscriber base to 2.5 crore. Tata Teleservices' subscriber base reached 1.4 crore with the addition of 5.7 lakh subscribers in the month of November.

India, the world's fastest growing wireless market, also emerged as the third biggest GSM market in November with 10 crore GSM subscribers, as cellular operators sustained their aggressive growth in November.

With this, India now joins the elite club of countries having more than 10 crore GSM subscribers. "In terms of GSM subscriber base, India is now placed third after China and Russia," a COAI statement said.

COAI Director General T V Ramachandran said the GSM industry and COAI were delighted at the achievement of the 10 crore milestone.

"GSM has been the primary engine of growth in telecom in India and will continue to be the major contributor to the growth in teledensity in the coming years," he said.
