Mobile companies add 3.57 million GSM users in June: COAI

NEW DELHI: Subscriber additions by Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular and other GSM operators in India grew 0.54 per cent to 671.13 million in June, data released by industry body COAI showed today.

The number of GSM users in May was 667.56 million. "The GSM subscriber base increased by 3.57 million in June 2013," the Cellular Operators Association of India said in a report. "Total GSM subscribers as of June are 671.13 million."

UP (East) continues to be the largest circle in terms of subscribers, with more than 60 million customers.

Bharti Airtel led the growth, adding 1.26 million subscribers, followed by Idea (1.21 million), Aircel (0.61 million), Vodafone (0.35 million), Uninor (0.3 million) and Videocon (0.13 million), according to the report.

While state-run BSNL didn't add any subscribers, MTNL lost 0.09 million users, it added. Private operator Loop also didn't acquire any new customers.

In terms of number of subscribers, Airtel led the tally with 190.91 million, followed by Vodafone (155.03 million), Idea (124.97 million), BSNL (97.17 million), Aircel (60.97 million), Uninor (32.30 million), MTNL (4.34 million), Loop (3.03 million) and Videocon (2.42 million), the report showed.
