Make calls abroad, it's getting cheaper
Both outgoing and incoming international calls would become cheaper beginning April 1.
The ADC on outgoing ILD calls has been abolished completely. The access deficit charge rate on incoming international calls has been slashed to Re one from the prevailing Rs 1.60 per minute.
This will lead to lower telecom tariffs on services provided by the operators. Trai has directed the telecom operators to pass on the reduction in ADC charges to the consumers.
The telecom operators would also have the greater flexibility to fix their tariffs and make innovations on packages offered to consumers, sources said. The cut in ADC charges is intended at tackling the grey market for international calls. The ADC cut would also bring about ‘level playing field’ between telecom players offering fixed and mobile services vis-à-vis those offering internet telephony.
The ADC revenue has been slashed to Rs 2000 crore for the next financial year. This is against Rs 3200 crore reported for 2006-07.
