The Maharashtra government is going to formulate a policy for the mobile companies to set up their signal towers on any building.

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government is going to formulate a policy for the mobile companies to set up their signal towers on any building.

Minister of State for Revenue Rajendra Shigane said in the Legislative Council today that many signal towers in Thane districts were found illegal and action has been taken against concerned companies.

The state government collected fine of Rs 1.29 crore from Vodafone, Rs 54 lakh from Reliance Mobile and Rs 32 lakh from BPL for constructing towers without permission, the minister said.

He said the policy will include the building should be strong enough to construct tower on it.

The complaints were also received from residents of adjoining buildings about the rays transmitted from the tower, he added.

The issue of illegal transmission towers was raised by Shiv Sena member Arvind Sawant. He demanded action against mobile companies for constructing towers without permission.
