KMC gives in-principle nod for Reliance Jio for 4G infrastructure
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation gave in-principle permission to Reliance Jio Infocomm to lay cables for 4G mobile services in the metropolis.
"The officials of Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom arm of Reliance Industries Limited, agreed to pay the license fee and the funds to repair the roads and other utility services like water supply that would be damaged when laying cables for 4G service in the city," Mayor-in-Council (Engineering) Atin Ghosh said.
"One-fourth of the project cost will be kept by the Reliance Jio authorities in a bank account to fund the repair work," he said.
The final nod to Reliance Jio Infocomm would be given on Friday after the meeting of the members of the Mayor-in-Council. Reliance Jio Business Head and State Mentor (East) of Reliance Jio Infocomm, Tarun Jhunjhunwala held discussions with Ghosh and other KMC officials for the proposed roll out of 4G services here.
The company would lay 750 km of underground optical fibre network within KMC's jurisdiction.
