Idea Cellular tops subscriber additions in December

NEW DELHI: Aditya Birla group’s Idea Cellular has added maximum number of subscribers in the month of December, GSM lobby group COAI said in a statement.

The third largest domestic carrier by subscriber base, Idea added 2.58 million new connections, followed by Sunil Mittal-driven market leader Bharti Airtel with 1.79 million and second largest operator, Vodafone UK’s Indian arm, with 1.49 million. In December, India’s GSM subscriber base has increased 1.22 per cent over previous month, adding 8.17 million new subscribers taking a total consumer base to 678.54 million, the statement added.

Maharashtra telecom circle has added 1.04 million new customers in December while UP East remains the largest circle with 59.60 million GSM subscribers.
