KOCHI: Hutchison Essar Ltd on Wednesday launched 'PlanetHutch', an interactive GPRS based service, in Kerala that would enable its customers to download a range of contents from movie clippings to news updates.
Hutch customers with GPRS and EDGE-enabled phones can download their songs, polyphonic ring tones, wallpapers, greetings, movie clips, games and news updates and book railway tickets, Hutchison Essar Ltd-Kerala Operations Director Samuel Selvakumar said adding customers could also MMS their favourite pictures.
"With PlanetHutch, the customers in Kerala will find their GPRS enabled handsets becoming a one-stop-shop for all their infotainment needs," he said.
The scheme will have no monthly rentals and customers would spend the standard rate of 10 paise per 10kb as usage charges while accessing PlanetHutch.
Regular download charges of Rs 1.50 to Rs 3 would be applied for downloads; he said adding customers would be able to track their PlanetHutch usage through the GRPS data counter available on GPRS compatible handsets.
Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution (EDGE) standards has the capability to provide high speed, multimedia mobile services such as video streaming on mobile phones, Selvakumar said adding service is available at Kozhikode, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
Hutch, which was launched eight months ago in Kerala, has its footprints in 500 towns across the state.
