Hutch increases STD rates for prepaid users

Hutch-Essar, the country's third largest mobile player, on Monday increased long distance tariffs for its prepaid mobile customers by 10.41 per cent with immediate effect.

NEW DELHI: Hutch-Essar, the country's third largest mobile player, on Monday increased long distance tariffs for its prepaid mobile customers by 10.41 per cent with immediate effect.

The company, in which UK's telecom giant Vodafone has acquired a majority stake, said in a public notice it has raised STD rates to all other networks to Rs 2.65 from Rs 2.40 earlier for prepaid and non-activated stock in the market.

However, the company said the changes would not be applicable to customers who are less than six months old on the network, but beyond this time period the revised rates would be applicable from August 6.

The new tariffs would also not apply to offers -- Chalta Rahe, easy Chalta Rahe and 295 SKU.

Bharti Airtel, the country's top mobile player, had also increased long distance tariffs for its prepaid and postpaid mobile customers in Delhi region by up to 32 per cent with effect from August 1. The company had increased STD rates to the Airtel network to Rs 2.65 from Rs 2 for prepaid customers and to Rs 2.40 from Rs 2 for postpaid subscribers.
