Hughes Communications bags Rs 150-crore orders in first half of this fiscal

NEW DELHI: Satellite services operator Hughes Communications India Ltd (HCIL) has won orders worth Rs 150 crore in the first half of this fiscal for providing satellite-based solutions to banks and other institutions.


"Our new business wins and market growth have enabled us to maintain and strengthen market leadership in satellite broadband domain. In the first half of this fiscal, we secured orders worth Rs 150 crore," HCIL Head Enterprises Business Shivaji Chatterjee told PTI.

The Gurgaon-headquartered company has delivered about 78,000 VSATs (Very Small Aperture Terminal) for shared and private services, he added.

The company, a subsidiary of global satellite and wireless services giant Hughes Network, received multiple orders from banks to provide managed services to over 800 locations across the country.

Besides, HCIL will also establish and maintain end-to-end satellite broadband connectivity for a period of three to five years at multiple locations across the country through alliances with various institutions like Punjab and Sind Bank, Bombay Stock Exchange, British Gas, etc.

"Last fiscal, we secured about 50 per cent of the business from banking sector, around 10 per cent each from digital cinema and e-governance services and about 8 per cent each from e-learning and oil and gas business," Chatterjee said.

HCIL continues to see banking and financial services industry as the big driver of its managed services portfolio in India, followed by e-governance, defence and SME sectors, he added.

HCIL, majority owned by Hughes Network, offers broadband services under the Hughes brand. Its customers include large enterprises and small and medium businesses across various verticals and consumers.

The company provides solutions like networking, system integration, managed network services, security transaction services, intranet, Internet, broadband kiosks and interactive distance education.

The company currently operates over 30,000 TDMA (Time division multiple access) and broadband VSATs on its various managed service platforms.
